400 Brant Kitchen and Bar

Nestled in the heart of downtown Burlington, 400 Brant Kitchen & Bar offers a dining experience that beautifully marries rich history with modern elegance. My family and I recently had the pleasure of visiting this charming establishment, and it quickly became one of our favourite spots in the city.

A Historic Gem in Downtown Burlington

The building at 400 Brant Street is a cornerstone of Burlington's history. Constructed in 1860, it stands as the oldest structure in the city that has continuously operated as a hotel and public house. Originally known as the Zimmerman House, it later became the Queen’s Hotel, then the Sherwood Hotel, and most recently, the Queen’s Head Pub. Recognizing its historical significance, the City of Burlington has moved to designate the building under the Ontario Heritage Act, ensuring its preservation for future generations

A Dream Realized: Sarah Millar and Stewart Schmidt

In early 2024, Sarah Millar and her husband Marcus took over the reins of this iconic location, transforming it into 400 Brant Kitchen & Bar. Both born and raised in Burlington, Sarah and Marcus are deeply committed to their community and have poured their hearts into reviving this beloved space. They brought on board Executive Chef Stewart Schmidt, a seasoned culinary professional with over 30 years of experience, to helm the kitchen

A Dining Experience Like No Other

Upon entering 400 Brant, you're immediately enveloped in a warm and inviting atmosphere. The interior boasts tasteful décor featuring harmonious green and gold hues, complemented by elegant wall molding and herringbone flooring. This blend of classic and contemporary design elements creates a setting that's both sophisticated and comfortable.

The restaurant offers a diverse menu that caters to a variety of tastes. During our visit, we began with appetizers of bruschetta and spring rolls, both bursting with flavour. For our main courses, my sister and I opted for the vegan Korean rice bowls, a delightful combination of savoury and spicy flavours. My father chose the chicken bowl, which he thoroughly enjoyed. The turkey club sandwich and Caesar salad were also hits at our table. To conclude our meal, we indulged in crème brûlée and apple crisp for dessert—sweet endings to a memorable dining experience.

Outdoor Dining at Its Finest

One of the standout features of 400 Brant is its enchanting garden patio. Surrounded by lush greenery and adorned with twinkling lights, the patio offers a serene escape that feels worlds away from the bustle of downtown. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely lunch or dinner, especially during the warmer months. For those seeking a more traditional outdoor dining experience, the regular patio area provides additional seating options. And for cooler days, the beautifully renovated indoor dining room offers a cozy and elegant setting.

Private Events and Unique Amenities

Beyond its regular dining offerings, 400 Brant also caters to private events. The Fore Hundred Room, located on the lower level, features a full bar, two lounge areas with TVs, and two state-of-the-art golf simulators. This versatile space can accommodate up to 100 guests and is ideal for corporate functions, milestone birthdays, and other special occasions. Upstairs, the Brant Room offers a more intimate setting for up to 50 guests, perfect for smaller gatherings and private dinners
